Safer Surfacing

Children fall over in playgrounds and they fall off playground equipment regardless of how safe and secure the equipment is. They always have and they always will.

One of the most important and responsible roles we have at Safe & Sound Playgrounds is to make sure all falls are cushioned and the severity of likely injuries is greatly reduced. Every surface we sell – both natural and synthetic – adheres to BS EN 1177, the British/European Standard governing the safety requirements and test methods for impact absorbing playground surfacing.

Wetpour

Wetpour is a durable, slip-resistant and porous continually laid surface consisting of rubber crumb bonded together with a polyurethane resin and comes complete with a five-year guarantee.

The thickness and surface area of Wetpour is determined by the Critical Fall Height (CFH) of the equipment installed – that is, the higher the piece of equipment, the thicker the layer of Wetpour is required.

Wetpour is very popular with schools and municipal play areas because of its ability to withstand very high and continuous use over many years as well as aesthetics and minimal maintenance requirements. To add to the excitement of the play area, Wetpour comes in a range of colours and can also have shapes, images or graphics laid into it.

Grassmat

Grass mats are 1.5m x 1m mats made from recycled rubber and are laid over an existing grass surface. The mats are non-stick and allow for the grass underneath the mats to grow through, which can then be mowed as normal, giving the playground a natural look and feel.

For an additional cost, we can supply coloured (green) and flame-retardant grass mats and the standard price includes a five-year guarantee and a ground stabilising mesh laid beneath the mats.

Under the right ground conditions, the Critical Fall Height (CFH) is 3m.

Rubber Tiles

Rubber tiles are exactly what they say they are. 1m x 1m tiles which are glued together in varying colours made from recycled rubber that have very similar properties to Wetpour and come complete with a five-year guarantee.

The tiles are supplied in varying thickness levels, dependent on the Critical Fall Height (CFH) of the equipment and they are laid onto a prepared concrete base.

Cushionfall

Cushionfall is an environmentally-friendly natural tree bark that has been specially treated and graded for use in children’s play areas. It’s soft yet durable and is pram and wheelchair friendly with excellent impact absorbing properties.

Cushionfall is an attractive proposition due to the fact that it’s easy to handle and it drains water very quickly keeping play disruptions to a minimum. However it does require regular maintenance, topping up and turning.

Nomow

Nomow is a next-generation artificial grass requiring no maintenance, no mowing and no feeding and watering. It has a special fibre-fill construction for added bounce and comfort and it retains its safety properties in all weather conditions.

Nomow comes in a range of critical fall heights and its benefits include being flame retardant, no grazing on young skin, water resistant and it comes with a five year guarantee. There is no mud when it rains and during hot weather, there are no hard bare earth patches.

Nomow has been tested for UV stabilisation and it is certified to BS EN 1177.
